  6.     The drugs used to keep patients from rejecting transplanted
  7. organs work by suppressing the immune system -- which in turn
  8. leaves the body open to infections and even cancer. But a
  9. recently developed technique targets only the new tissue.
  10. Creating a hybrid molecule out of a human protein and an
  11. antibody, scientists tricked mouse immune systems into accepting
  12. human pancreatic cells while rejecting other foreign tissue. If
  13. it works in people, transplants will become far safer.
